Diagnostic Ultrasound
A safe, non-invasive diagnostic tool, ultrasound allows providers to see under the skin in real-time to precisely diagnose and treat muscles, nerves, ligaments, and joints issues.
Ultrasound is also a critical tool for ensuring accuracy when performing injections. Spine West uses ultrasound for all injections, including PRP, steroid, and hyaluronic acid. Joint injections done with guided ultrasound have higher efficacy and provide better results for patients. The following is a sample video clip of an ultrasound exam for educational purposes only.
What to Expect
Ultrasound scanning is painless and efficient.
Providers or medical assistants will bring a scanning machine into the exam room and prep the patient for scanning by sterilizing the skin around the injury site.
The provider will apply gel to the ultrasound probe and scan the injury site.
Patients can watch the scanning real time and providers will explain what they are seeing.
How to Prepare
Diagnostic ultrasound does not require special preparation.
