Persistent pain is common and complex. We know that the most effective treatments for chronic pain are those that are comprehensive and multidisciplinary – combining expert medical care with evidence-based psychological interventions from Mind-Body Medicine. With its focus on treating the whole person, Spine West is proud to offer this model of care.
Pain Counseling Services draw from a range of well-researched approaches, such as: Pain Neuroscience Education; Pain Reprocessing Therapy; Pain-specific Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Mindful Self-Compassion. Pain Counseling focuses on helping individuals acquire the practical tools, resources, and knowledge that they can use in their day to-day life in order to reduce pain-related suffering, restore a sense of safety, increase self-efficacy, and reconnect more fully with the facets of their life that they value and that give their life meaning.
Pain Counseling is offered Carol Cowley, MSN, APNP-BC, a board-certified nurse practitioner, in collaboration with ongoing medical evaluation and management of persistent pain conditions by Spine West providers. Individuals who are interested in accessing Pain Counseling Services with Carol, but are not yet patients at Spine West, will need to first schedule an initial visit with one of Spine West's providers.
Note: Prescribing opioid or other controlled medications is not a part of our service.
